A Thousand Words: Fortune Cookie Wanderlust

This was my fortune cookie prediction from a very generic Asian food court meal that I scarfed down at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this past weekend. It definitely made me smile. And it’s one of the few fortunes I’ve gotten where you can’t append “in bed” to make it sound dirty.

LA’s Cure for Cabin Fever

I get cabin fever far too easily. I blame it on Los Angeles. After almost eight years of living here, I admit that I’m — for lack of a better term — a pussy when it comes to the weather. Yes, I am ashamed.

Air New Zealand adds beds… in economy

Air New Zealand recently introduced the “Skycouch,” affording economy class passengers the opportunity to lie flat across the row of seats. The Skycouch seats will go on sale in late April for long-haul flights between Auckland and Asia, North America and the United Kingdom.

A Thousand Words: Happy 2010!

I admit I’ve been feeling lazy lately. Hey, it was the holidays, I worked hard all year, I needed a break, I went… to Vegas! Well, family first, then Vegas. There’s no place else in the world to escape reality the way you can in Sin City.

Learning the basics at Pum Thai Cooking School

All I wanted was a beach chair and a good sunscreen, but the lifeless gray skies hovering over Phuket had derailed my plans of soaking in the Thai sun. With light rain drizzling from above, I decided to sign up for the afternoon cooking class at Pum Thai Cooking School to learn about the basics of Thai cuisine.

Bicycling through Angkor, Cambodia

Tuk-tuks are the vehicle of choice to the many tourists who visit the Angkor temples, but bicycles lend the freedom to explore. Rent one for $1 per day from a local vendor in Siem Reap, and have your pick of the majestic Angkor Wat, the mystical faces of Bayon, the overgrown jungle of Ta Prohm and more. By bicycle, all of Angkor is yours.

Trazzler for Travelers

I recently joined an online travel community called Trazzler, a collection of user-submitted write-ups of trips and destinations around the world. The style is geared toward travelers, not tourists — the places and activities, along with the writing style, are meant to inspire, not dictate. Join the community and you can submit your own trips, too.

Digesting New York – Thanksgiving Edition

On this Thanksgiving Day, I look back at my travels to New York and give thanks to all those who made sure I never went hungry. A week after the trip, and I’m still digesting all of those calories. Somehow I’m going to have squeeze some turkey and pie in this 5′2″ frame tomorrow, but that’s another story.

A lavish dinner at one of New York’s finest Michelin-starred restaurants yields a new appreciation for the art of fine dining — the marriage of food and service in a flawless production that can often leave you breathless.

A Thousand Words: Autumn in Central Park

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2002, the only fall colors I’ve seen are the cardinal and gold of my beloved USC Trojans. Since I haven’t experienced a true autumn in seven years, I sorta went nuts with the photo taking today in Central Park, New York. Here are a few of the good ones.
