Digesting New York – Thanksgiving Edition

On this Thanksgiving Day, I look back at my travels to New York and give thanks to all those who made sure I never went hungry. A week after the trip, and I’m still digesting all of those calories. Somehow I’m going to have squeeze some turkey and pie in this 5’2″ frame tomorrow, but that’s another story.

Daniel and the Art of Fine Dining

A lavish dinner at one of New York’s finest Michelin-starred restaurants yields a new appreciation for the art of fine dining — the marriage of food and service in a flawless production that can often leave you breathless.

A Thousand Words: Autumn in Central Park

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2002, the only fall colors I’ve seen are the cardinal and gold of my beloved USC Trojans. Since I haven’t experienced a true autumn in seven years, I sorta went nuts with the photo taking today in Central Park, New York. Here are a few of the good ones.

Mo’ Mo-Chica: Update

I hinted that there would be more to this Mo-Chica feast than just my bragging about it, and here it is: a full review of fabulous six-course meal on Caroline on Crack. Thanks again to Chef/Owner Ricardo Zarate for putting it together just for our group.

A Thousand Words: Astor Place

The Astor Place Condominiums have drawn quite the criticism over the years, first for breaking ground and a few years later when evaluating the building’s condo sales. But that is a topic too boring and too beyond my scope of knowledge to elaborate on. I just liked the reflection of the building on the condos’ windows.

Thoughts from 30,000 feet in the air….

Blogging from my Virgin America flight from LAX to JFK thanks to Google’s free holiday WiFi. Naturally, the first thing you do when you have free internet on an airplane is to update your Twitter and Facebook statuses to broadcast how amazing it is you can Twitter and Facebook… on an airplane.

Am I blocked in China?

What could I have possibly written to get my website banned in China? I thought maybe my slow server was to blamed, but nope. I am indeed censored by the People’s Republic. Here’s how you can check to see if your own site is being blocked.

New York in two days…

Time got the best of me and I haven’t planned one iota of my trip to New York. Help me out with a restaurant suggestion or two, won’t ya?

Mo’ Mo-Chica

When I first wrote about Mo-Chica, my intention was to avoid writing a restaurant review. What could I say that hasn’t been said? Bolstered by glowing praise from heavyweights such as Jonathan Gold at the LA Weekly and now Patric Kuh of Los Angeles Magazine (get the November issue for the full review), Mo-Chica hardly needed two more shiny copper pennies.

This blog is brought to you by Sprint

“I have a blog topic for you,” said my friend Tiff. “It’s not the normal topic for you, but it’s so ridiculous that it must be blogged about.” She was referring to the recent proliferation of Sprint into her guilty pleasure, ABC’s “Desperate Housewives.” Sprint recently partnered with the network to produce a series of integrated ads that run alongside the show as a sponsored spin-off series, “Another Desperate Housewife.” The mini-series’ story line consists of a housewife, her cheating husband and her best friend/betrayer — and how each uses Sprint to conspire against the others. The ad peeps are calling it a revolution.
